How to clear your cache

Pick your system and browser. Follow the steps. Done.

System
Browser

Google Chrome

macOSWindows

Quickest way: press ⌘ Cmd + Shift + DeleteCtrl + Shift + Delete and skip to step 2.

  1. Click the menu (top-right) → Delete browsing data.
  2. Set Time range to All time.
  3. Tick Cached images and files. Untick the other boxes if you only want to clear the cache.
  4. Click Delete data.

Just need to refresh one page? Hold Shift and click the reload button to reload it without the cache.

Safari

macOS only

Safari doesn't run on Windows — for a Windows PC, pick another browser above. The macOS steps are shown below for reference.

Quickest way: turn on the Develop menu (steps 1–2), then press ⌘ Cmd + ⌥ Option + E any time.

  1. Open SafariSettings (older macOS: Preferences) → the Advanced tab.
  2. Tick Show features for web developers (older versions: Show Develop menu in menu bar).
  3. In the menu bar, open DevelopEmpty Caches  (or press ⌘ Cmd + ⌥ Option + E).
  4. Want to clear cookies and history too? SafariClear History… → choose all historyClear History.

The Develop → Empty Caches method clears only the cache — your cookies and logins stay intact.

Microsoft Edge

Quickest way: press ⌘ Cmd + Shift + DeleteCtrl + Shift + Delete and skip to step 3.

  1. Click the menu (top-right) → SettingsPrivacy, search, and services.
  2. Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear.
  3. Set Time range to All time.
  4. Tick Cached images and files only.
  5. Click Clear now.

Hard-reload one page instead: ⌘ Cmd + Shift + RCtrl + Shift + R.

Mozilla Firefox

Quickest way: press ⌘ Cmd + Shift + DeleteCtrl + Shift + Delete for the quick "Clear Data" dialog, set When to Everything, then do step 3 onward.

  1. Click the menu (top-right) → SettingsPrivacy & Security.
  2. Scroll to Cookies and Site Data and click Clear Data…
  3. Untick Cookies and site data. Leave Cached web content ticked.
  4. Click Clear, then confirm.

Hard-reload one page instead: ⌘ Cmd + Shift + RCtrl + Shift + R.

Brave

macOSWindows

Quickest way: press ⌘ Cmd + Shift + DeleteCtrl + Shift + Delete and skip to step 2.

  1. Click the menu (top-right) → Delete browsing data.
  2. Set Time range to All time.
  3. Tick Cached images and files. Untick the rest if that's all you want gone.
  4. Click Delete data.

Brave is built on Chromium, so this dialog matches Chrome's. Shift + click the reload button refreshes a single page without the cache.

Opera

Quickest way: press ⌘ Cmd + Shift + DeleteCtrl + Shift + Delete and skip to step 2.

  1. Open SettingsPrivacy & securityClear browsing data (the O menu, top-left, leads here).
  2. Open the Advanced tab and set Time range to All time.
  3. Tick Cached images and files only.
  4. Click Clear data.

Opera is built on Chromium too. Shift + click the reload button refreshes a single page without the cache.
