How to clear your cache
Pick your system and browser. Follow the steps. Done.
Google Chrome
macOSWindowsQuickest way: press ⌘ Cmd + Shift + DeleteCtrl + Shift + Delete and skip to step 2.
- Click the ⋮ menu (top-right) → Delete browsing data.
- Set Time range to All time.
- Tick Cached images and files. Untick the other boxes if you only want to clear the cache.
- Click Delete data.
Just need to refresh one page? Hold Shift and click the reload button to reload it without the cache.
Safari
macOS onlySafari doesn't run on Windows — for a Windows PC, pick another browser above. The macOS steps are shown below for reference.
Quickest way: turn on the Develop menu (steps 1–2), then press ⌘ Cmd + ⌥ Option + E any time.
- Open Safari → Settings (older macOS: Preferences) → the Advanced tab.
- Tick Show features for web developers (older versions: Show Develop menu in menu bar).
- In the menu bar, open Develop → Empty Caches (or press ⌘ Cmd + ⌥ Option + E).
- Want to clear cookies and history too? Safari → Clear History… → choose all history → Clear History.
The Develop → Empty Caches method clears only the cache — your cookies and logins stay intact.
Microsoft Edge
macOSWindowsQuickest way: press ⌘ Cmd + Shift + DeleteCtrl + Shift + Delete and skip to step 3.
- Click the ⋯ menu (top-right) → Settings → Privacy, search, and services.
- Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear.
- Set Time range to All time.
- Tick Cached images and files only.
- Click Clear now.
Hard-reload one page instead: ⌘ Cmd + Shift + RCtrl + Shift + R.
Mozilla Firefox
macOSWindowsQuickest way: press ⌘ Cmd + Shift + DeleteCtrl + Shift + Delete for the quick "Clear Data" dialog, set When to Everything, then do step 3 onward.
- Click the ☰ menu (top-right) → Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Scroll to Cookies and Site Data and click Clear Data…
- Untick Cookies and site data. Leave Cached web content ticked.
- Click Clear, then confirm.
Hard-reload one page instead: ⌘ Cmd + Shift + RCtrl + Shift + R.
Brave
macOSWindowsQuickest way: press ⌘ Cmd + Shift + DeleteCtrl + Shift + Delete and skip to step 2.
- Click the ☰ menu (top-right) → Delete browsing data.
- Set Time range to All time.
- Tick Cached images and files. Untick the rest if that's all you want gone.
- Click Delete data.
Brave is built on Chromium, so this dialog matches Chrome's. Shift + click the reload button refreshes a single page without the cache.
Opera
macOSWindowsQuickest way: press ⌘ Cmd + Shift + DeleteCtrl + Shift + Delete and skip to step 2.
- Open Settings → Privacy & security → Clear browsing data (the O menu, top-left, leads here).
- Open the Advanced tab and set Time range to All time.
- Tick Cached images and files only.
- Click Clear data.
Opera is built on Chromium too. Shift + click the reload button refreshes a single page without the cache.
